One of my favorite shows is MythBusters. If I wasn’t a professor, I would be either a brewmaster for a craft brewer or I’d try to be a science consultant for a show like MythBusters. A couple of nights ago I was watching a re-run of the Mentos and Diet Coke show. During the show, they put a graphic up listing some of the ingredients, including, to my surprise, CO2. I started yelling at the TV, and my wife (who’s degree is in Elementary Ed.) said, “What, did someone mess up a chemical formula again? Here, why don’t you relax, don’t worry, and have a homebrew?” That was good advice. Of course, it means that any gen chem student worth his/her salt could be a fact checker for the show…
