We spent today chasing through the literature and old notebooks. Dylan got started right away where we left off yesterday. When I checked in on him, he had some nice spectra, but they were totally different from what we got yesterday. It turns out yesterday’s spectra were the plastic microwell plate we use to set up our experiments.

An Open Letter to the Human Resources Department of the Superfriends
Although I have been waiting patiently for a few years in the hope that an advertisement would appear, I feel for the sake of my career that now is a good time to approach you. In essence, I am wondering whether you are, or will be, accepting any new members into your fine organization. More specifically, I am inquiring as to whether you need the services of a geneticist, since that is my particular field of expertise.
Hopworks Brings Out the Bottles
I figure it’s been a little bit since I’ve offended anyone, and egged on by a pastor friend I figured some blasphemy was in order.
An article (Mobilization for Math and Science Education) in today’s Inside Higher Ed news caught my eye. Briefly, the Carnegie Foundation completed a study that calls for better Math and Science education so that America will remain economically competitive into the 21st century. Specifically, their report tilted “The Opportunity Equation” calls for:
